Owner and Chief Executive Officer
Dewey’s Bakery Inc.
Scott Livengood is the owner and Executive Chairman of Dewey’s Bakery, Inc. Under Scott’s leadership, the company has expanded from an established specialty retail bakery into a commercial wholesale bakery with a respected national brand of ultra premium cookies and crackers.
Dewey’s commercial bakery has become a premier crafter of premium cookies and crackers and an emerging national brand in the natural/specialty and mainline grocery channels under both the Dewey’s and Salem Baking Company brands.
Established in 1930 in Winston-Salem, NC, the high volume retail bakery has served families in the area for over four generations, and is still known today for its Moravian Sugar Cake, a specialty coffee cake with Old World origins dating back three centuries. Since acquiring Dewey’s retail bakery, Scott has set in place a growth strategy for the retail operation with the goal of becoming a regional presence in the Southeast.
Previously, Scott worked at Krispy Kreme Doughnuts for 27 years, starting as a trainee in 1977. He was appointed President of the company in 1992, then CEO and Chairman of the Board. Under his leadership, the company grew from 95 to 367 stores, including openings in Canada, Mexico, the UK, and Australia, and had the most successful IPO of the year in 2000.
Scott has served on numerous boards including the Carter Center, the Calloway School of Business and the Babcock School of Management, Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County, and the Winston-Salem Chamber of Commerce. Scott also served as Chairman of the Board of the International Storytelling Center for several years. In 2012, Scott and his wife Michelle created the Scott and Michelle Livengood Foundation to support initiatives that promote the fulfillment of individual potential, community building, and the realization of hope. The signature achievement to date is LivingStories, a story-based program for improved patient experiences and outcomes in partnership with Novant Health.
He and Michelle live in Winston-Salem, NC and have four children. An avid writer, he is slated to publish his first book about finding your calling through the power of your personal story.
